10 weeks 5 days.

For the mamas out there- when did you start to notice your belly grow? I know that the kid is no bigger than a kumquat (another food description for ya!) and weighs something like 2 ounces. Then why are my pants too tight already? I know I joke about eating all the time, but I've only gained 3 pounds in the past two months. I have heard that bloating is common, and yeah, I do feel kinda bloated. But I also feel just big. Why do you suppose this is? Is my uterus taking up that much more space? I started out this pregnancy being around 40 pounds overweight, so I don't really have a little pooch popping out of a flat tummy area like in those pregnancy magazine photos.

It's all so interesting, these body changes. I can't wait to see what pregnancy has in store for my body next. More acne? Torpedo tits? Perhaps some hemorrhoids? Ohh, the excitement!

  1. I'm 10 weeks today, so maybe a week behind you on the baby front and well, I am feeling pretty big as well! I've never been pregnant before, so I can't say what's normal, but I'm definitely starting to have trouble buttoning my pants. I do think a good bit of it is bloat because it seems worse later in the day.

  2. I had the strangest thing happen when I got pregnant- I lost weight! Well, only in the beginning and I think it had something to do with the whole "no more cokes" thing. However, while the scale was whispering sweet nothings into my ear, my clothes were still mocking me. What was happening was my body was completely changing its shape. I imagine that's what's happening to you. Your weight is going to focus around your mid-section to give the growing kumquat lots of protection. That's why your pants are having a hard time buttoning (I saw your photo). You also might be retaining water. Keep an eye on your feet and make sure they aren't swollen.

And 40 pounds overweight? Hardly, silly!!!

Do me a favor, stay away from those pregnancy photos. They are mostly unrealistic. Those things depressed the darnit out of me because I never looked like that. In fact I never looked pregnant. I just always looked fat. The cute baby bump thing never happened. Instead I got the phenomenon known as "two stomachs syndrome" :(

Here are the lovely body changes I had happen:

    1) my feet grew from a 8 to a 10...and they only went down to a 9 after Lydia was born....they never went back to 8.

    2) My nose got really weird looking. In fact my whole face changed

    3) acne like I was 18 all over again

    4) my boobs got, well, you know

    5) my sense of smell was ridiculous. In fact that was my first symptom...I felt like I could smell the blood in my arms!

I'm sure there is more but that's all I can think of :)

  3. Maddi, I'm worried about the "two stomachs syndrome" too. I would rather look pregnant! But I definitely think you looked pregnant when you were carrying Lydia, so we are always our own worst critics. Your nose got weird looking?!

I keep waiting for the exaggerated sense of smell that people talk about, but I don't really have it very much. I think if something smells bad already, I feel like it smells worse.

  4. Yeah, my nose got really wide. I can't even explain why. I looked really swollen around that area.

You're lucky you don't have the smell thing. I remember I was helping out at one of the KP outreach programs. This was a few days before I found out I was pregnant. The nurse I was sitting with kept having to do the finger prick blood test on people and I swear I could smell the blood. It smelled like licking a metal table, lol. It was horrendous. And that's when I decided I could smell the blood in my arms too. I just thought I was losing my mind.

How are you feeling? Are you still managing to dodge the morning sickness (I hope)

  5. I hope the smell thing doesn't get worse. I don't wanna be a vampire :)

I'm feeling pretty good! The queasy has mostly gone away now. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

  6. I gained weight very slowly at first and then during the 3rd trimester I really packed it on. In fact, I'm pretty sure when we all went to Chicago I was still wearing some of my normal jeans. I was about 4 months in then. I think I started wearing all maternity clothes the week we got back from Chicago.

My feet also got big. Size 8.5 to a 10. Luckily, they went back down to an 8.5. I also got a wart on my ring finger that hung around until a few week after Milo was born. Strange. My boobs were the first thing I noticed- definitely huge. One of my moles also doubled in size (got it checked out- totally normal pregnancy side effect). Ahh... pregnancy, what fun!

  7. Jill, I remember that you were only showing a teeny bit in Chicago. You did so much walking then too, which now I'm amazed at because these days a walk around the block exhausts me!
